Homework packets:  RETURN ALL PAPERWORK EACH FRIDAY

  • Read each night to your child and fill out the reading log.
  • Spelling Test this Friday!
  • Sharing was wonderful!  Everyone did a great job bringing in clues for the class to guess their sharing.

We Read The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds

Just make a dot and see where it takes you!

… and discover your Artistic Talent

We are looking at the Artist Wassily Kandinsky.

We will look at elements of art and analyze a piece of work by Kandinsky.

The class will start with a dot and create their own circles with pastels on black squares


  • Language Arts: We are identifying nouns in our sentences we read and write.
  • You can draw your nouns or cut out nouns (from a magazine) that name a person, place, or thing.  Glue your pictures on the back of the homework paper and tally the nouns from your collected pictures.

Math: 

  • Composing and Decomposing numbers.
  • Different parts that make up the whole.
  • One More than a number, number bonds, counting up, counting down
  • Continue to look at the 100’s chart on the back of your homework folder and point to a number for your child to name.  What comes before and after that number. 


The first 6 weeks of first grade:

  • Learning routines, following directions,  and classroom rules

Assessing each student on:

  • Number formation and math skills
  • Letters, sounds, phonemic skills, and reading words
  • Writing capital letters, lowercase letters, letter formation, and placement on the line
  • Tall letters, small letters, tail letters
  • Reversals of letters
  • Sentences that start with a capital, spacing between words, and punctuation
  • Writing sentences that make sense

Examples of letter formation, Capital letters, and lowercase letters are on the homework folder.



Parent/Teacher conferences are October 7th-11th. 

We will be meeting and handing out progress reports at that time.
