Hello room 8 families!

Here’s what I know:

~ There is a Boosters meeting this Wednesday at 3:15 in room 8.

~ This Friday the Boosters are putting on a movie night for the 5th-8th grades from 5:00-7:00. This is a kid only event- parents must sign their children in and out. They will be watching The Sandlot and Boosters will provide popcorn and pizza.

~ We have a lot of fun things happening this week: art with a guest teacher, 2 special guests to share with us their scientific research on Alzheimer’s and an afternoon in the garden with yet another guest teacher, to divide and plant dahlias.

~ We will be having mini classes again this year. They will be in the afternoons on Wednesday June 4th and Thursday June 5th. Please reach out if you are able to lead a class.

~ We would love to have you come in and teach something to the class. If you are interested, please let me know.

~ It’s yearbook time! If you have pictures of school events that you would like to share, please email them to [email protected]. Thank you!

8th grade families only: We have a graduation meeting this Wednesday at 5:30 in room 8. Students are more than welcome to come along. It is very important that you attend this meeting, so you can know the plan for the big day!

Note From Ms. Kaney about 8th Grade Math

So proud, as always, of the hard work the 8th graders put into learning new and challenging concepts.  Right now, we are learning about exponents (What on earth does a negative exponent mean?) and scientific notation (How do you write the tiny size of cells, or giant number of cells that cover our fingertips?).  We are wrapping our heads around these tricky concepts.

Message about S.E.L. (Social emotional learning) with Ms. Taylor:

As our weather is getting better, I will be incorporating the garden for our SELs. This will include introducing the topic of our lesson, reflecting and having a discussion, and then working on a task. Garden tasks may include watering, pulling weeds, planting seeds as well as vegetables into the garden beds. Going out to the garden may not occur every lesson, however, I want to make sure it happens often. I will also be incorporating mindfulness-based activities and practices for our garden/SEL lessons. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out by emailing [email protected]

Please make sure to read the weekly update sent from the office each week for information on other topics.

Have a great week,

Katie Loomis
