* Dear 3rd and 4th Grade Families,
Our class will be starting a “Cardboard Challenge.” This is a fun STEAM activity that we will work on over the next few weeks. It is an integrated lesson involving science, technology, engineering, art, and math, along with a little writing. Each group of students will use the Engineering Design Process to build a functioning, arcade style game. They will build these games out of cardboard and recycled household items. When the students finish their arcade games, we will have a game day, and families will be invited to come and play.
I am asking, if you’re able, for donations of recycled items for this project. We are looking for things like plastic or paper cups, paper towel and toilet paper tubes, plastic lids of any size, lots of tape of any kind, and any other recycled materials that could be used to create a functional and creative arcade game. Please do not send glass items.
I am including a link to the video we will be watching as a whole class if you would like to see the idea behind this Cardboard Challenge:

We will keep you updated as we move along with this fun and exciting project.
Thank you for your help!
* Scholastic Book orders, here’s how it works: I’ll send home flyers throughout the year. If you decide to place an order, you can do that through our class ordering page. Your books will arrive at school about 10 days after I submit our classroom order. If you don’t want to order online, you can send your order in with a check and I will send it in.
