Dear Families,

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend.

Here’s what is happening this week:

  • State testing week is here! The 3rd - 8th grade students will be taking the SBAC/CAASPP tests in Math and Language Arts starting next week. We will be testing Tuesday - Friday and will begin first thing in the morning, so it is important that everyone arrives at school on time. Please make sure your student gets plenty of rest and eats a nutritious and filling breakfast. After each testing session, we like to reward the kids with snacks and extended recess time. If you are able to donate any extra snacks we would be very grateful! Snack ideas include fresh fruit and veggies, bagels and cream cheese, string cheese, granola bars, yogurt tubes, fruit snacks, or anything fun. There are 22 students in class. Thank you!

  • Cookies for Catalina starts today and will be every Monday after school for the remainder of the school year. Cookies are $0.50 and will be sold out front at 1:30.

  • For the families that have volunteered to drive for the field trip on the 23rd or to teach mini classes, please check in with the office to make sure you have all the necessary paperwork in. Thank you!

That is all for now. Have a wonderful week!

Take Care,

Liz Kadle

CARDBOARD CHALLENGE

Our class is working on the “Cardboard Challenge.'' This is a fun STEM activity that we will do over the next few weeks. It is an integrated lesson involving Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Writing. Each group of students will design and draw a model, then build an arcade style game. They will build these games out of cardboard and recycled household items. When the students finish their arcade games, we will have a game day and families will be invited to come and play.

I am asking, if you're able, to help donate some of the recycled items for this. We are looking for things like plastic cups, paper towel/toilet paper tubes, plastic lids/tops of any size, tape of any kind, and/or any recycled materials that could be used to help make a functional and creative arcade game. Please don’t send glass and metal items.

I am including a link to the video we will be watching tomorrow, if you would like to see the idea behind this cardboard challenge.

We will keep you updated as we move along with this fun and exciting project.

Thank you for your help,

Liz Kadle
