Brunner's Bulletin - Week of Jan. 14

Dear Families,

Happy Monday! Here's a quick update on what’s happening this week:

  • Snack Donations Needed: We’re running low on snacks, and this group has a big appetite! We’d greatly appreciate any contributions. Thank you for your support!
  • Current Focus Areas: This month, we’re diving into informational writing across the curriculum and preparing for History Day. Beginning a new unit in history (Ancient Egypt and the middle east).
  • 5th grade math: We are working through multiplying multiple digit whole numbers by using the standard algorithm to solve multiple step word problems.
  • No School Reminder: School will be closed on Monday, January 20th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Note From Ms. Kaney about 6th Grade Math

We spoke today about why we do homework and the importance of creating a good routine for homework that will stick with us as we progress through school.  Just like any skill we want to get better at, homework is our way to check in with ourselves to see if we are understanding the daily work we do in class.  Most students have established good homework habits and routines.  Keep it up!

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) with Ms. Taylor:
Each week, students participate in SEL lessons led by Ms. Taylor. These sessions focus on:

  • Managing and understanding emotions
  • Building empathy and communication skills (e.g., assertiveness)
  • Developing problem-solving and goal-setting abilities
  • Gaining perspective-taking skills

The goal is to help students handle emotions, foster healthy relationships, and become effective problem-solvers. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to Ms. Taylor at [email protected].

That’s all for now. Wishing you a fantastic week!

Warm regards,
Marissa Brunner
